Nitrile gloves are manufactured from a petroleum-based, cross-linked synthetic latex film that is formed by the co-polymerization of butadiene with acrylonitrile to yield a nitrile elastomer.

Q: What is an N95 mask?

An N95 mask is a disposable filtering facepiece respirator with two straps. When worn properly (with the mask making a tight seal with the user’s face), it can protect against hazardous airborne particles. N95 masks do not protect against gases, vapors and cannot be used for asbestos, and they do not provide oxygen. The “N” designation means the mask is not resistant to the effects of oil mists.

Q: Which masks are medical devices regulated by the FDA?

Face masks marketed to the general public for general non-medical purposes, such as use in construction and other industrial applications, are not medical devices. Q: Where should I store my face shield? Can I take it home and use it in my day-to-day life (such as going to the grocery store)?

If your unit, or department, has a dedicated space to store your face shield you are welcome to leave it at work. If there is not a space to store your shield onsite, we recommend leaving it in a plastic bag in your car or at home.

If you would like to utilize your shield at home you are welcome to do so, but remember this shield was meant for completing your work duties and must last throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic.
