LEEDAM FAQ

Q: What are Nitrile Gloves?

A:

Nitrile gloves are manufactured from a petroleum-based, cross-linked synthetic latex film that is formed by the co-polymerization of butadiene with acrylonitrile to yield a nitrile elastomer.

Q: What are the characteristics of Nitrile Gloves?

A:

Nitrile conforms to the shape of wearers hands, has good puncture resistance, greater chemical protection and, because they contain no latex proteins, Type 1 Latex Allergy is eliminated.

Q: Are all nitrile gloves medical grade?

A:

Nitrile medical grade gloves are great for use in healthcare fields of any kind seeing as they protect against bodily fluids, blood borne pathogens and are highly puncture resistant. Nitrile industrial grade gloves are best used for most other tasks including working with chemicals, food or even for use in the home.

Q: Can you handle food with nitrile gloves?

A:

Nitrile is considered the material of choice for handling foods in a safe, contaminate-free and additive-free manner. FDA certified nitrile is used for its cleanliness and strength in food processing machinery, similarly it is the safest and strongest material for food handling gloves.

Q: What is the best way to store the Nitrile gloves?

A:

The Nitrile gloves should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area. They should not be stored near direct sunlight, moisture, x-rays, or extreme heat.

Q: What is an N95 mask?

A:

An N95 mask is a disposable filtering facepiece respirator with two straps. When worn properly (with the mask making a tight seal with the user’s face), it can protect against hazardous airborne particles. N95 masks do not protect against gases, vapors and cannot be used for asbestos, and they do not provide oxygen. The “N” designation means the mask is not resistant to the effects of oil mists.

Q: Which masks are medical devices regulated by the FDA?

A:

Face masks marketed to the general public for general non-medical purposes, such as use in construction and other industrial applications, are not medical devices. Face masks, when they are intended for a medical purpose such as source control (including uses related to COVID-19) and surgical masks are medical devices.

Q: What Are Isolation Gowns?

A:

Isolation gown purpose is to help protect your frontline caregivers and staff from infectious droplets, fluid penetration and solids, and help prevent the transfer of micro-organisms to vulnerable residents.

There are two main categories of isolation gowns intended for healthcare purposes: surgical and non-surgical.

Q: Where should I store my face shield? Can I take it home and use it in my day-to-day life (such as going to the grocery store)?

A:

If your unit, or department, has a dedicated space to store your face shield you are welcome to leave it at work. If there is not a space to store your shield onsite, we recommend leaving it in a plastic bag in your car or at home.

If you would like to utilize your shield at home you are welcome to do so, but remember this shield was meant for completing your work duties and must last throughout the entire COVID-19 pandemic.
